I'm so angry right now...
My sort-of direct boss at work (because we're supposed to have TWO leads in there and only have one, so John has to do EVERYTHING himself) told me yesterday that he found out that we are working at least two - TWO!! - more Fridays. The one after Labor Day and the Friday after that. WTF? Supposedly, it's because the chickens are "staying too long on the farms." And this is our fault how, those on the line? WE didn't ask for four ten-hour shifts. We asked for LESS OVERTIME to be able to spend more time with our families. We did NOT ask for a change in schedules. We liked what we had. We rarely worked a weekend then, and if we did, it was generally not a kill day. It would be for something like the patty and nugget lines to play a bit of catch up, and would be generally half a day, so nobody really minded too much. Plus, depending on how many people showed up, half of them could easily get offered to go home without a point, and still get four hours pay (mandatory by federal law). It was pretty decent. Not great, but not horrible, either.
Now all this. There have been so many Fridays scheduled since Memorial Day, I can't really remember the last time I had one off without calling out to get it! I even tried to set up one of these Fridays for a vacation day. Nope, not being allowed. EXSQUEEZE ME????? These are MY vacation days to use as I want, you morons, not to be told I can't use them. Screw it, I'm looking for something else with a more normal schedule, while continuing to work my arse off on the shops. I said shops for a reason. I'm using the one on Shopify for my main shop ... the dog and cat lovers gift shop, as well as dog bandanas and cat toys. The other will be Redbubble, and will be for everything that doesn't go with the main shop - so states, countries, Christmas, teachers, patterns, whatever. I've got a gazillion graphics and I might as well use them. I don't need them cluttering up the pet lovers shop (Homestead Crafter), but I do want to use them. So there's that, and with enough stuff in Redbubble, those otherwise useless to me graphics can be put to good use and make me a bit of money on products. HA!
Despite having to work a full freaking shift yesterday, which wore me the F--K out, I still managed today to get all the bills paid and get groceries and do the laundry, dishes, and cat box. Thankfully, the vacuuming can wait till next weekend when I'll have the holiday off. Fifty freaking hours in a week. If I wanted to work my fat arse off that many hours a week, I would have gone to debone instead of evis, and contentedly froze my fanny off there. This is insane, and the line weenies, as usual, are taking the brunt of it. So yeah, at least an hour a day on workdays and more on weekends will be continuing to be spent fixing things. The shop is how I want it, so that's just a matter of tossing up products.
Speaking of which, I'm starting to put up cat toys (crocheted and knitted) and print on demand dog bandanas, as well as the collar slip on bandanas which will be made by me. I found some gorgeous fat quarters for fall and Christmas at the store tonight and grabbed them. Done properly, I can get two one-sided bandanas from each fat quarter. They've got some other patterns in half yard and full yard pieces as well that I plan on getting as I can over the next several weeks. I can whip them out in about 20 minutes, and then whoever buys them can just slip them on the collar. The collar pocket is big enough for almost any collar, too, so that's a help. With all that material I got from helping Kat clean out her deceased Grandma's apartment last fall (not to mention the totes and totes of yarn!), I have plenty on hand to make lots of cat toys and doggie bandanas. Never hurts to get MORE though, right?
Anyhow, I need to get a bit more done on the shop, and get some sleep so I can do whatever I can tomorrow on the shops. Night, all!
Pictures for the tax of you having to read all of that, haha.
